John Bryner and Tracey Wheeler from the Teacher Education Department of Southern Utah University, offered the presentation “Technology Templates: Creating Learning Opportunities for Diverse Learners”.
Educators try to accomplish the task to ensure that no child is left behind and that all children are successful in learning, although the pressures of a standard-based curriculum which is measured through achievement tests is really high.
In their presentation they provided examples of:
(a) developing a community of learners that builds on diverse students cultural backgrounds through WebQuests designs;
(b) collaborative partnerships with parents, community and professionals with interactive classroom webpages;
(c) second language accommodations with audio books and writing storybooks using PowerPoint;
(d) multimedia projects that foster individual and peer collaboration and finally
(e) E-portfolios that can document a students progress over time.

According to this article, technology is an excellent tool to provide personalized learning for each child. Bryner and Wheeler affirm that technology can promote higher levels of understanding through personalized learning environments tailored to fit the individual child’s needs and interests. Technology allows students the opportunities to accelerate or decelerate their learning depending on their progress (Bryner & Wheeler, 2004, p. 2).
Lesson plans based in the cooperative learning and technology integration promote increasing learning and connect school with real world experiences.
